> QUESTION: I get the following error message: "The material preview scene cannot be found."

This error message shows up when you are trying to load Maxwell Studio without a layout. This happens because you had a previous version of Maxwell Render installed in another path and your MAXWELL ROOT environment variable has not been changed correctly when you installed a new version. This means that the software is still referenced to the old path. It’s easy to resolve this issue. Revise the Maxwell root environment variable and update the path, rewriting the new installation path in the corresponding window.

> QUESTION: I get this error message: "MAXWELL_ROOT environment variable not found”

It has come to my attention that the installer is apparently having difficulty satisfying the prerequisite of finding MAXWELL_ROOT on some installations. The installer has always required this, but it seems that the Maxwell 1.6 installer may be setting MAXWELL_ROOT only at the User-level. So, if you get an error during the installation, indicating that Maxwell Render could not be found, please edit your machine's Environment variables, adding a System Environment variable of MAXWELL_ROOT, which points to your Maxwell Render directory.

The System Environment variables are located in the lower box, as seen here:

Environment variables may be accessed on XP by:

- going to the Start menu
- right-clicking 'My Computer'
- clicking 'Properties'
- going to the 'Advanced' tab
- clicking 'Environment variables'

They may be accessed on Vista by:

- going to the Start menu
- right-clicking 'Computer'
- clicking 'Properties'
- in the dialog, clicking the 'Advanced System Settings' link
- clicking 'Environment variables'

> QUESTION: I get the following error message while installing: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. "

The problem may be that your computer does not have Visual C++ installed. The following links will take you to a Microsoft package that will enable you to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ installed.

- For 32 bits systems:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)

- For 64 bits systems:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64)

> QUESTION: How to fix MAX OS X License issues

Check that there is only one version of Maxwell Render in the system. If there is more than one version, it could cause conflicts in the license detection system. Also assure there is not any version of Maxwell Render in the trash can, it is strongly recommended empty the trash can if getting license issues.

In order to license copy and paste the license information placed at the end of the license email into the license.txt file located in the Maxwell installation folder. If you purchased your license before Maxwell Render 1.7’s release, please note that your license file will also be recognized by Maxwell Render 1.7 and you will not need a new license. If you buy new license or need to renew your license, please make sure that you use the license.txt and remover older license.dat files. If you are reinstalling Maxwell Render with the old license.dat file, please license the software by adding the “license.dat” file sent by Next Limit to Maxwell using the menu opiont “Help > Register”. Alternatively you can copy the “license.dat” file into the Maxwell installation folder.
