Maxwell in action

While he usually focuses on architectural work, Brian Looney from McFarland Davies Architects likes to try out something different every once in a while. A sunset render for example.

Brian explains: “In McFarland Davies Architects' architectural renderings, my goal is to show off the architectural design, with scene entourage often taking a back seat. However, I have found that fake-looking CG trees often pull the eye away from the intended focal points of the rendering. Natural and realistic-looking vegetation that reacts correctly with the scene's lighting is less likely to grab negative attention.”

“This render was made while testing the new Thin SSS feature of Maxwell Render version 2. I was trying to get the subsurface scattering of the leaves to be effectively realistic in many different lighting situations including indoor, outdoor daylight, outdoor low lighting, and light sources at different angles. I was particularly pleased with this test render, so I decided to add some SimuLens to give it a little extra realism. Maxwell Render's sky system is also showcased here with its beautiful late evening sky colors.”
