I just persuaded our office to get Maxwell. We have one copy of Rhino and 3 architects using Skethup 8 Free. Lo and behold we can't use Sketchup Free with Maxwell?

Whose policy is this, and is this going to change anytime soon?

It's Nextlimit's policy but I think it has something to do with the coding of SU so I wouldn't expect it to change anytime soon.

This is due to the plugins use of the C++ API for exporting which Sketchup only enables in the Pro version.

It is possible to make a version that supports Sketchup free but as with all Ruby based solutions it would be much slower to export scenes (and who knows how this would effect FIRE).

Is there a Sketchup to Rhino bridge?

Best,
Jason.

How were you able to get to through the testing and learning stage to the purchasing stage without SU Pro?

Just using the Rhino plugin?

As the others have said, SketchUp Free is not currently supported. The plugin's main component is a 3D exporter (i.e. File > Export 3D, as with DXF/DWG/DAE/OBJ/etc.), the loading of which Google only supports in SketchUp Pro.
