Thanks for the screenshot.
Isn't there any simple scene without textures for starting with? :)
Let's make it read the scene first, then we can check texture paths.

\\nova\data\test.mxs could be a good start...

Also when you open a window in Ubuntu and type "/Nova/data/", it will send you to "smb://IP/data" or "smb://machine/data"? I guess this trick is only working with machine name.

It didnt work to mount it with the computername so we used the IP when we mounted it..

If I open a window and type /nova/data it sends me to /nova/data...

If I type smb://nova/data it sends me to the correct place

I've did a simple test with just a test.mxs under /nova/data with a material without textures.

Same thing happends... just for the records

I don't understand why this line has double slashes on your Linux mxcl log.
Here mine has only a single slash... I think you need to find a way to mount it using the machine name.

Code:
[04/februari/2008 17:17:41] Reading MXS://Nova/data/test.mxs

OK Ill try that but I dont see how that could make any difference?
Does it really matter how the mount looks like?
Software on the computer only see /nova/data anyway, right?
Is'nt it totally transparent how the data ended up there?

Are you shure that maxwell recognices that its handled by cifs and that its on another computer?

Ill try this tomorrow, thanks for today Tom :)

I'm not so sure about why it fails with your system. I just know the only two differences with yours and mine are smbfs and machine name. So, I can't imagine anything else making it fail, it should work as I have it working here.

I've unmounted /nova/data now and trying to mount it the way you've done it:

mount -t smbfs //nova/data /nova/data

This is the error I get then:

...and if you do this?
Code:
root@corvette:/# /bin/mount -t smbfs //nova/data /nova/data

Then I'm getting the same error...

I've also checked that my smbfs is the most recent version.

Try adding nova to known hosts list (System / Administration / Network / Hosts).
In my first attempt smbfs has failed, too. Then I launched Synaptic and selected everything about Samba and samba related mounting stuff, it worked.
