Hi there,

as no one had any ideas on why i couldnt load my license, which works fine on windows, on to my mac im forced to try it in demo mode.

So, when i try to browse through my material library i experience huge slow motion as i enter each folder, same thing when rolling up and down. This slows down workflow.

Im using snow leopard.

I'm also having a huuuuge speed problem with version 2.0 material browser
When i click on browser and scroll down, it just goes into waiting spinning wheel for long seconds each time...basically it turns material editor totally unuseable...

Any hint?

Mac OS X 10.5.8
Video card Nvidia Gforce GT120 - 512mb
Mac Pro Nehalem 2x2.26
Ram 16 gb
MR 2.0.1

thnx

I can only hope the new MXED gets a proper workover soon, also in Studio the material editor is hard to work with, crashes almost always when rendering a preview. I tried the browser but it was too slow to get anything done. Macpro 8 core 3Gh 4GbRam

i have a dream
that there is someone at NL that is buying a mac, installing MR 2.0 with sketchup for example, and tries to work with it...

We haven't got much feedback or attention from NL regarding this, and its been 2 months since 2.0 is released...come on guys!

yes, the material browser folder list is very jumpy at scrolling and a mess.

First, it's listing all Applications as Folders, and letting us open them?
Mac Applications are a special package type folders, we shouldn't be seeing them in here.
Image

Next, why do we get to see empty folders?
The list seems to be doing pre filtering of file types, such as .txt files, etc. Yet, it still shows me the folders even if you can't open them because everything inside them has been filtered out. Other than more folders with nothing to see in them either.
Image

Here we see some items it should be filtering out. (.frameworks)

I don't know how this list functions on Windows, but to me it seems to be an attempt at including a Windows like Explorer browser, yet I don't see a reason why. This list should not be showing me every folder on my computer. I believe it should be a list of my favorite MXM folders. Just show us where we WANT to browse our .mxm files, maybe with sub folders to help keep them organized. Nothing else. Those are the only thing I can open with it anyway...

If I wish to browse my computer for a place I haven't added to the list before, I can either click on the little folder button and find what I'm looking for there (and maybe add it to my favorites list on the left) or type in the path in the path field, if i'm the kind of person who likes typing things. (in my experience that would be more the programers way, not the artists)

Just a few of my thoughts for now.
I think you guys have done an amazing job with this software! So, for the record, I'm not attacking anyone. I am however, eager to see better more user friendly implementations of interfaces.

UI and UX has been a big part of my job for the past many years... But, I now find myself on a path to re-acquire 3D skills!
As Vizzini would say, "go back to the beginning."

Has there been any improvement on that MXED topic for OSX since...?
Strangely we have heard no news from NL whatsoever regarding this topic and the extremebuggyness of the SU / OSX v2.0 plug in too...

I have switched to 1.7.1 without pleasure....( paid for v 2 but cannot use it...) :(

I only use the SU plugin to export things, then do all my setup in Studio. It would be so great if they put some effort into making Studio a truly powerful and functional application. (including powerful UV mapping tools built in) as it stands now, it's nice enough, it works for the most part. but it feels like it could use more love. I'm not convinced the plug ins for other apps are the best solution. (like in SU)

I too would like to see the slow OSX interface speed improved...there is serious lag between moving a scroll bar and actual movement across the board in all panels and that shouldn't be. Considering I've got 18 gigs of ram on my OSX machine it just shouldn't be that way with Studio...my Vista machine has 2 gigs of ram and seems as fast or faster with the same scene.

Strange, but true... just tested a scene...MW on my Vista machine with 2 gigs of ram has a more responsive interface than the same same scene in OSX using 18 gigs of ram.

Why is that?
