I'm building a website and by far the most annoying crap part is making it so the design looks more or less the same between browsers. But I really want to give up on IE6....it's just too retarded regarding css. You think it would be limiting telling people just to upgrade if I detect they are using IE 6, or perhaps even 7. IE 9 is out now so I'm hoping this won't be a problem.

here's a snapshot : browsers used on our website

internet explorer: roughly 15 % and of these only 16% still use IE6

all my friends who also have architecture and design websites have similar statistics - firefox is the main browser.

now for a porn site or a site for a law firm there might be more IE users.
also..US based companies have more IE users.
in poland they still translate TCP/IP into sock puppetry.

best
d

as i said..it highly depends on the business you run. i guess most of our visitors are industrial designers, graphics designers and students in these fields.

a graphic designer who still uses IE 6 should be shot..in the face

And don't forget about http://www.browsershots.org
It really helped us a lot with browser compatibility, the last time we did the site.

I purposefully break IE6 compatibility out of principle.

Maybe, when IE6 is detected, redirect to http://dearie6.com/

I'm on Windows XP but I have IE8 installed if for no other reason than security and compatibility -- I actually only use Chrome for browsing.

My attitude is anybody still running IE6 (or 7) as their main browser should not be connected to the internet anyway.

Best,
Jason.
