hi maxwellians,

we are selling our little renderfarm:

2x MacPro 8cores à 3,2 GHz, 16GB RAM, 500GB HDD
incl. SuperDrive etc.
2x MacPro 8cores à 3,0 GHz, 8GB RAM, 500 GB HDD
incl. SuperDrive etc.

these were used as pure renderengines (maxwell only!) - so, no contamination of other renderingsoftware ;-)

how much money would you spend for those? i have searched the net and found a pricerange of 2.500€ - 3.000€ (8cores à 3,0GHz/8GB) and 2.800 - 3.800€ (8cores à 3,2GHz/16GB)...

best regards
munch

any chance you have run (or can run) the benchwell scene to get an idea of where these fall in terms of Maxwell speed? Just curious of price to performance ratio compared to the new sandybridge chips.

when did you buy those machines? are those the predecessor to the X5550 Xeons?

Those sound like 2007-2008 era Mac Pro's from the configuration, though more technical specifications would need to be provided to know for sure. That means they are the X5300 and X5400 series Xeons.

If you're looking for their value I'd check ebay for similar configs. There is a robust Mac resale market there.

How much are you asking for the 3.2ghz machines and can you ship to UK?
My 3.2 died yesterday in the middle of a project and I'm looking for a quick replacement.

Brian

Edit:
In regard to price I bought my 3.2 8 core (same spec but with 2Tb Hdd) for under £3000 two and a half years ago.
This equates to about £2500 with less disk space. Subtract a 2 or 3 years wear & tear and perhaps £1500 to £1700 is a good price depending on condition.

hi brian,

i am sorry to hear that your MacPro is not rendering anymore! what happened?

In Comparison to your MacPro, i don`t think there is such a huge difference of £500 (500GB HDD vs. 2TB HDD)...it is approx £150.
This is equal to £2850.
Substract a 2-3 years wear&tear (as you called it) = £2250 !

This is £250 less than the cheapest offer for this MacPro config, which i have found on ebay...

Still too expensive? i will offer you the MacPro 8core 3,0Ghz for £1800, but i don`t think you want to downgrade

or take all of them (32cores) for £7500 !

Otherwise they will have to accept their fate and render in my office until they say goodbye...

regards
munch
