I'm trying to render this character for a goverment funding project. Some materials are grainier than others and it's been baking for over two hours. I have a Dual Xeon 2.8 (HT) yet I left the threads on zero. Should I set them to four?

Sampling level: 25
XP 32bit
2 Gig RAM

Is there any other way to speed up this damn render and smooth out the noise. I must have two of these done by monday morning!

Yes bang the number of threads up, this should help.

It looks as if you are using physical sky, try using Skydome or
a studio setup with emitter, this will render much much quicker

Are you using an HDRI image for lighting? I've heard that they can cause excessive noise if they aren't the right kind. I don't use HDRI's so I don't know exactly how it works. You'll have to do a search.

well it seems the shiny materials that have the coating layer are remaining grainy.

The scene units is in cm and the character is 180cm tall. Could someone set up a studio lighting scene for me so I can put my character in and render?

Would be most appreciated. I simply don't have enough time or the experience to set up an ideal lighting rig. They want strong light illuminating the character from the front like in a dramatic portrait. A few reflections and backlighting is also required. With skylight turned on instead of physical sky I have everything but the shiny light coming from the front.

I wanted to set up a plane with a bright MXI/HDR emitter material for the front light. I haven't suceeded.

There are several threads where people have posted lighting and studio setups. Do a search.

FYI I have about 9 times. Nothing specific turns up. Certainly no max files. My time is running out so I have done a small studio setup myself. It's still grainy as hell, overly so.

No skylight, no physical sky, just a box emitter and a sphere. I'm starting to wonder whether a maxwell render was worth it at all. This has gone ass end up. Im screwed and I'll have to render him flat grey with mental ray. F@!K And I haven't slept in 33 hours.
