Thanks :) about the extremly high displacement precision value for these materials. As i wrote above somewhere here, you can yourself adjust the value down to 16 or 24 or 32 or 64 or even disable displacement completly as the high value is only required for closeups. They will still look good when rendered with lower values or without displacement. :)

kami: Sorry i couldn't see your renderings before as i were checking the forum on my cellphone (internet is uberslow via 3g on a cell). Now i see them and your renderings are interesting hehe, they do render but superslow as you noticed.

I was bored tonight and tried to create a carpaint material with flakes, it's loosely based on the wizard's setting but modified quite a bit. I'm not sure if it's anywhere near the real thing or if it sucks ass :D my guess it kinda sucks..
Image

And i rerendered a old material at a higher resolution now, this one cooked for a couple of days around the clock. Resolution is 2000 pixels. Displacement precision is set at 256 for this to extract lotsa details from the map.

Hey Max, when I go to the three links listed all I see is the main File Dropper site...no way to download your stuff. The address does not accept the links as shown...your extension is left out and it won't accept it as posted. Do I need to be a member to download?

Thanks,
Ron

Ron: Ah noes, the archives i uploaded has been removed. They're only hosted for a short time and then the site deletes them :( i'll have to reupload them again tomorrow morning. Thanks for the reminder.

A couple of tests and tweaks and misc copper doodles, nothing really exciting but i post them anyways. I know i made copper and similar metals before but i like the metal itself, it's colors and surface attracts me for some reason.

Thanks Bubba :) these were created during extreme boredom yesterday, i couldn't think of anything better to do so.. the boredom continued very late into the night and early morning today, i ended up with only two hours sleep hehe, i wanted to see what they would look like rendered at highres (4k) on a highpoly Zbrush model. :)

It turned out well. I think the figures are a little out of focus, may want to change the f-stop a little, but first, get some sleep.

Bubba: Thanks, yep they're still a bit out of focus. I already adjusted it twice but i guess i need to do it a third time to nail the focus. :)

Hervé: Thank you, no you're right it was a bad idea. I feel like a zombie today ugh.. and i broke my PC mouse last night too. I'll definately catch more sleep tonight, it's infact gonna be a early night tonight.

I always wanted my own watertap :) and now i built me one in Modo, this one is for materialtesting of metals but it should work just fine for most other types of materials too. It's missing a dirtmap in these images now but i'll paint one and then i'm gonna package this and release it for anyone who wants it for testing their materials in Studio. For free ofcourse! :)

Ignore the materials in these images, they're old and just to show that it works. This setup is ofcourse based on ThomasAn's scene, and he should have all the credit for it.

Thanks Bubba and Richard :)

Bubba: It's actually not stretched, but i don't know why it looks like it is. It shouldn't.. weird :)
Richard: :) good to hear you're a frequent visitor to my mxm dungeon, i hope to see more threads like this from all you guys. It's a good way to keep your mxm skills fresh and alive by experimenting alot and trying to see where the limits are...

As promised here's the watertap mxs scenefile for Studio, including the painted dirtmaps. Have fun playing with this guys and feel free to post your examples somewhere. :) btw, there are some odd pixelated looking artifacts on the big flange part closest to the vertical pipe, it wasn't there when i painted the texture so i have no clue where it's coming from, unless Maxwell Studio trashed the mesh and uv's when i imported it. :(
