Hi all

I need some advice on illumination and materials.
I am currently working on a pavillion-building project. It is a timber underconstruction with a PVC textile roof.
The textile is 15% translucent and slightly diffusing. The textile-roof consists of several double curving 4-point sails.
So it is like the inside of a big white tent.

Does anybody have any good advice on how to achieve a simulation of different interior daylight conditions within reasonable render times?
I guess a completely unbiased, realistic approach with illumination of the interior with physical light through an SSS roof would produce only noise(if any result at all)

I would also appreciate any advice on how to create the sail material. My roof geometry is only a 2D mesh at the moment.

Thanks in advance.
Strass

This could be usefull. The material has sss but also clipmapping, tiny holes for the light to come through. Of course invisible lightsources as an offset from your sails will help a lot on rendertimes.

Thanks for the tip Eric.
I have overlooked this thread and material.

I figure it can be useful for studying a more closeup part of the pavillion, but I suspect it would never clear up to illuminate the whole of the pavillion through the material.
I have been testing with hidden lightsouces but it is also kinda tricky with the curved form of the sails.

Thanks anyway. I guess it is one of the more demanding situations for any renderer.
