Thanks Val and Greg!

Val - I really did try but just couldn't get a decent looking foam. I really haven't seen one done in 3D that I thought held up well enough for a high-res still, and now I have a much greater appreciation for why :shock:

I may come back to it, but I am getting a bit sick of beer and liquids :lol: I have one more beer bottle project/test underway and when that's done I"m onto something else. Don't know what yet....

In an animation where liquid pours out of a bottle like in your last image ... does realflow simulate the air pockets trying to get *into* the bottle as the liquid empties ? In other words, is liquid flow intermittent as it should ?

In many computer images usually the liquid pouring out of bottles looks more like a hose output (a thick continuous stream)

To the best of my knowledge it does not do that automatically - although Beatriz could clarify better than I. What I found is that animating the emitter for size/speed/position creates the most natural looking flows. It's a trial and error kind of thing for me.

I think with scripted emitters and forces you could create that effect, but that is way over my head. I tried to work through the scripting tutorials - which are supposedly pretty easy :shock:. I didn't get too far though - apparently I am not terribly bright :wink:

Thanks Thomas. I think the pour could be better done with scripting (or some Zbrush sculpting afterwards) but I was okay with this one here. Don't take it as a comment on what Realflow is capable of - I'm very new to it.

What would happen if you immersed the bottle into an imaginary tank of "air" and not use an emitter for the liquid, but pre-fill the bottle with liquid and put an imaginary stop at the opening that you remove the last moment ? Is that possible you think ?

In a sense the bottle could always immersed in an imaginary tank of air - it's a matter of how you define the forces around it - but in order to do what you mean here (as I understand it) you would actually have to have a particle system setup for the air molecules and another for the the liquid. I think it would be doable, but complex for me and also slow to process. Probably not bad with scripting - but I'm deficient in that regard :)

This pour was sort of done 1/2 using the way you describe though: I capped the bottle and filled it for a while, then opened the cap and animated the speed of the flow. The build up with the cap on allowed the liquid to slosh around in the bottle a bit (which built up some randomness) and I also animated the speed of emission to create even more flow variation. You just aren't seeing it that much in this frame. There are definitely frames where the flow is more turbulent/uneven, but as it flowed out it evened out quite a bit and I picked this one because I was happiest with the splash in the glass and the action in the bottle - although the bottle is actually a comp of two different frames that I liked.

In any case, for a single still frame I really think you might be better off sculpting the final adjustments to the shape by hand - but then you lose the potential for motion blur which I had really hoped (in vain, alas) to use on this one.

Gotcha. Yes, thats what I had in mind. Now, the "slow to process" aspect makes sense and I can see it being a practical problem.
