I suggest that if commercial textures are used then just mention where to purchase the texture (and the texture filename).. but still include the mxm file. I could imagine that most texture venders would be quite upset if their commercial textures are shared for free.

Yeah, with commercial textures we need to be carefull ... so yes, I agree with Xlars.

Another question or two for ya Thomas, should we just post the materials and the mxm files directly now in the other thread or how is it supposed to work ?

And what if we use commercial textures for our materials, then what do we do with those ? :( (i might just share the materials anyways and don't care about the textures i used for them)

Hi Max,

What you can do is just a very brief post (in the other thread) with three links:

a) A link to a thumbnail
b) A link to the 500x500 image
c) (optional) a link to a zipped file containing the mxm and any non-commercial textures needed, or a readme of where to purchase the textures.

Hi and thanks :)

It's a real big shame about commercial texture usage in situations like this :( guess i better bite the sour apple and learn to live with it, sigh..

Thomas, thanks i'll add some of my materials to your list and if then you can do what you wish with them. But i won't be able to post the mxm's due to commercial textures in them :(

That is fine ... I don't want you to be uncomfortable.

Do you think it would be usefull to post the MXM (so the people can see the layer structure and settings), but without including the textures files at all ?
So, the MXM would have the links to the textures but no textures...

.. but keep in mind, that if you are going to use this scene then "No Alterations" at all are allowed from the original environment. These are the prerequisites. Otherwise it looses its purpose, there is not much uniformity (and it cannot be accepted in the gallery either).

I use this scene just to make my materials like chrome, silver, brush...
For the render of my products, I use a scene without HDRI, just a photo studio with rhino and the plugin.

As long as you understand that it is *not* compliant.
Without using the stock scene, the illumination is off (out of callibration) and reflections are off). The scene looses its usefulness and your materials cannot be assesed compared to others, because the ilumination is different.

I know Thomas. But no choice...This scene is quite usefull to work on some materials. For sure, after, I will adapt my scene and the lights.
I guess everybody get the same problem, we have to adapt our scene

Hi Pascal (and everyone),

I will have to be a little strict here on this.

If you feel that this scene does not suit you in its stock form and you need to alter it, please refrain from posting these variants here in the forum... or alternatively, avoid using this scene completely.

If there are variants floating around then this effort for uniformity is all in vain including all the time I have spent on it.

(In retrospect, it was probably a mistake to have offered the OBJ ... this has now been removed)
