I made the move to linux because of the high cost associated with 2003 server as a render farm OS solution. I realized this was going to set me back with Maxwell since there's nothing available at the moment, but I'm still glad I made the decision. My SuSE box is up and running with Nomachine and Winscp used to send files and start the server from my workstation. In my opinion this is the best work flow possible for my needs, and it's all free. It's even easier to admin than 2003.

I feel liberated to be (almost) free of Microsoft.

Now a little plea for information :)

I have noticed on the forums that a 64bit Linux version is being tested. Great news. Though beyond that, there's little to no information. I beg you NL, shine a little light on the Linux side and rejuvenate this forum. It wouldn't take much to energize the user base.

Thanks in advance.

nice to see you joining the dark side stephen... my guess is that we will see a bunch of this switch in the future, particularly regarding maxwell users with small and big network solutions. I hope that NL will enlighten this place "soon"...

Good move indeed. I think that GNU/Linux still has catching up to do as a workstation, and that mainly because people haven't been working together that much - cluttered over many different projects, the community has everything they need. As a server the platform is proven and it makes a lot of sense to me to use it as a rendernode, that's where i shines already.

From what I could hear NL are seriously interested in the matter, it's not somewhere on the bug list below the [x]G checkbox, they're really working on/with it, testing hardware platforms.

If we can't do it, maybe the (ex)commies will push it onto the world market ;)
