Hey leo, nice house indeed, you have some black part on the grass, no enough grass geometry?

great material and excelent tutorial!

One question: will all those intersecting polygons with clipmaps increase the rendertime a lot compared to planes that does not intersect?

Hi and thank you KurtS. That's a good question! i mean, i never tried with plans that doesn't cross, so i can't tell. BUT, the grass solution render fast, so i haven't even try to optimise the stuff. what is sure, is that if the plane doesn't cross, they will have to be kinda parralele, what will add many more holes.

I think the problem with intersecting clipped polygons is more noticeable with many polygons crossing in the same place (~300). When making grass the planes are crossing but not every plane with every plane; I mean maybe in one point there are 5-10 planes crossing each other which are not many.

What process do you all use for "spraying" the clip-planes onto the grass surface? I'm using 3DS Max and was trying to use the "Scatter" command but all the planes end up scattering with their midpoints even with the grass surface; affectively putting half of their surface in the ground. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Move the pivot point to the bottom of the plane or move up the scatter object.

Personally, I like the needs-mowed look.

Just for fun. Do some of it like that, some that is mowed down to the dirt and add a lawnmower. That’s how my kids mow the lawn.

Perhaps a few broken off sprinklers too, with the water coming out like a fountain.

An old Python script for Blender does this:- http://www.landisfields.com/beast0_5_3Alpha.py

Tutorial:- http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15476&highlight=beast

Perhaps some kind Python coder can port the script for use with everyone else's favorite 3D application?

If not you can get Blender for free here:- http://www.blender3d.org
