Here is my simple test

I used displacement for grass and several instances fot trees.
I have to tweek grass material, because render is very slow. I rendered 3000x2000 resolution and sl1 took 1h28m!!! But grass looks quite goo, i think.

P.S: trees are made with X-frog, exported from Cinemaxwell (no studio used)

Hy spekoun
can you share the grass material ore the trees ore the whole scene?

Great image, is it possible to share some disp details? Also a wireframe view would be nice, I want to see the ground object, to see how hi or low poly it is.

instancing rocks...

i'm currently rendering a test image with 50 million polys...

1200 instanced trees...... each one having 50'000 polys...

and RAM's not even close to being an issue...

two questions to bionatics/maya users.

-->
1)
if a bionatics natFX plant is duplicated, will the copy be automatically generated with a different look?

2)
is there some kind of brush tool available for placing plants on terrains ?

Bionatics/Max user here.

1. No. It will have the same "seed". So if one changes, they all will.
2. In Max I use particle flow or crowd helper to scatter instances of trees.

Hi everybody

I found displacement very sensitive. It depends on every setting: map, precision, and mash subdivision.

My test image came out good, but when i used these settings in scene, result was not so good. So it is hard to share or recommend something. My settings was: subdivision of plane - 5x5cm one square (points of plane were dispalced in model a little too), 6cm height dispalecement with 46 precision. Displacement map I can mail to you, resizing is imposible, it losts needed details, just p.m. me.

But displaced grass makes render times very long. I am trying to find some displacement setting with ground plane subdivision, which will not need so much time and will look good too. But no succes for now... :(

Here is my last try:
(btw: why there is a white line where water touches pool side? I did not find problem.)

hey Spekoun,

Which grass-material are you useed for this test from the mxm-Galery?

And i think it would look nearly simular without displacement.

Where the grass stops it looks bad...can you use something to hide these borders?

It would look nice with instances too.... A grass blade and some thousands of instances...

A photoshop grass blade brush would work wonders on the edges.

guys...

what are the highest resolutions for 2D trees (with proper alpha) available on the market ?

e.g.
http://www.archvision.com/HiResTrees.cfm
--> 2500 px

what are the best trees to buy ? where ?

Mate I downloaded those the other day and they seem to be blown up from low resolution trees. Not the best quality!
