Is there a Max version of that scene around? I would like to stick with Max for mat testing as I am not comfortable in Studio.

There would be more to it than that I think :). Anyway, if that was already done it would be handy to grab it so worth asking at least.

Apparently the geometry in the simball scene can't be exported? It says the geometry is protected and won't export as obj. Is there a setting to change or is this some kind of copyright thing?

The simball scene is protected so you can't export any geometry from Maxwell Studio, unfortuntely :( but it's a relatively simple model so it should be fairly easy to recreate even in horrible applications like 3dsmax. :)

Seems kind of silly doesn't it? What's to protect really?

I'm sure Studio is a good program, but I just want to add render engine into the mix, not another program to have to learn and move in/out of. The workflow is already complex enough.

Could NL release a Max friendly version of the simball scene?

The Simball scene was conceived and created for use with Maxwell by Thomas An., and as far as I know, NL is the only entity granted license to distribute it, in the form of the geometry-protected simball.mxs & related files you find included in the Maxwell installation. Of course, there are about a million clones of this scene around by now -- probably you can find something in your format if you do some searching.

Thanks for the reply JD.

Of course I can rebuild the scene or adapt one of the many clones, and it would be pretty close I am sure, but the point of having a consistent scene gets somewhat lost. In theory the same exact result could be generated with Studio and with Max if the scene was available there, that was more my goal.

The less variables, the less chance of problems later :)

We hear you, Brett. But, Next Limit is not the copyright holder of Simball scene. You should contact Thomas An. in this case.
