Anyone have an advice for me when shopping for a new pc? There's no chance of getting a Mac because of the software we run in my office. I'm running a lot of Maxwell Renders, SketchUp, Autocad, Revit, and Photoshop CS.

I'm trying to find the most bang for about $1000.

I know it's not much, but that's what I got.

Thanks for any input

core i7 2600k
cheap and for overclocking

Benchwell:
~ 08m00s, BM 1300 @ 3,4GHz (stock)
~ 06m15s, BM 1700 @ 4,5GHz

Processor: core i7 2600k 3,4GHz [quad core, 32nm, socket 1155] (+ good cpu cooler)
Mainboard: ASRock Z68 Pro3
RAM: 16GB (4x4GB DDR3 1333 or 1600)
Video card: GeForce GTX 560 TI with 1GB or 2GB RAM
PSU: 550-600W (but a good one... no cheap stuff!)
+ a silent HDD, Case, DVD

core i7 970
a bit more expensive if you don't want to clock it (but you can too!)

Benchwell:
~ 06m15s, BM 1700 @ 3,2GHz (stock)
~ 05m00s, BM 2100 @ 4,0GHz

Processor: core i7 970 3,2GHz [hexa core, 32nm, socket 1366] (+ good cpu cooler)
Mainboard: ASRock X58 Extreme 3
RAM: 12GB or 24GB (3x4GB or 6x4GB DDR3 1333 or 1600)
Video card: GeForce GTX 560 TI with 1GB or 2GB RAM
PSU: 550-600W
+ a silent HDD, Case, DVD

Here is the french benchwell site:
http://visualim2.o2switch.net/benchwell/
but read it carefully... it contains some wrong entries.

Thank you numberobis.

Can you tell me what "overclocking" is?

Nevermind about the overclocking. I educated myself.

Thanks again!

btw. if you don't need to buy it now, you could wait a few weeks until AMD releases the new CPU series (Bulldozer) in august or september... maybe there will be some price cuts. ...but maybe not
