I am doing some quick interior architecture studies and trying to keep the rendering time fast.

If I set up the scene to be lit with a HDR image and have the ceiling set to "hidden to global illumination", I can get good quick renderings. The only issue is the ceiling looks a bit flat with no shadows on it.

So, is there any way to create a material that will receive shadows but not cast them?

Thanks,

Gary

Well, a hidden to GI object does that: receives shadows but does not cast them. The problem is that you are hacking the lighting solution introducing something unreal in it. Probably walls will look lit at the top making the ceiling float, right?

Made a test to check:

The blue object is hidden to GI, the rest are not

Nevermind, as you can see it wasn't a great effort. :P
