Maxwell Alpha 2004 ... the very first gallery... it introduced unprecedented photo-realism to a mostly cartoon-like 3d universe. It was a bedazzling experience (akin to stepping out of a dim room to stare straight at the sun)

I remember being suspicious and doubting that computers were capable of such levels of photorealism ... so I was following Andronikos around the forums; he was brave enough in 2004 to pre-order the Alpha and test it. While he was struggling with the Evermotion scenes I got convinced that there was a real product behind this all :-)

Productive times indeed.
So often I fondly wish there was a way to restore the forum archives from Nov2004 to Jun2005 for the entire alpha cycle. Rarely do we see such candidly enthusiastic, collaboration of like minded early adapters acting as an extended research team on a unique but cutting edge technology.

No, things don't have to be wrong to miss old days. The company is doing great and the product has improved by leaps and bounds ! Would never trade modern Maxwell for Alpha.

For some of us it is the adventure element, the thrill of pushing the envelope with technologies that are not yet known widely. The technology is now common place, and some of the early adapters have moved to other technological battle fronts ... always searching for something rare yet brilliant ;-)

Its been productive and a journey indeed.

i purchased alpha (i think somewhere in late 2005), at home.
(edit: just saw that i'm a forum member since may 10 2005... its been some time!)

I had never seen such light rendering quality, materials and camera approach... it was brilliant!
since then, I effectively quit biased rendering... (now that i knew the term)
soon, i pre-ordered it at work, and maxwell was part of the work flow.

Some tests from around 2005/6 (i was so happy with these!! :D ):
