I played with own masks for aperture and obstacles few times a year ago. sharpest effect I get was something like this.

I've tried to use frishluft plugin http://www.frischluft.com/flair/index.php glow and highlight, but it doesn't work well in 32bit mode, it clips highlights to 255 level so I had to take exposure down eg -15EV and then +15EV after applying effect to make it work. All in all it can make glare but it can't replace Maxwell scattering to do eg. all lens effects in post (Maxwell scattering looks better). So still +1 for glare in simulens.

zdeno: can you please give me please unmapped (linear: no tone mapping, no camera sim, g2.2) exr of that image above with and without glare? If you can make glare for 12 blade aperture that would be really nice.

could be a problem with that . it was few years ago, but I would search on old hdd for some .mxs to recall all process

edit: didn,t find old files 9must be another HDD

but I reconstruct some part of process
